topic sums it up, id like to get a sportsman but would also like to save some money. I have a good understanding of the 400 2 stroke motor as well. I know that expresses and wxplorers used this power plant but they both had a straight axle swing arm rear end. I would love a modded 400 2 stroke motor with a fully independent suspension for ground clearence etc.

just curious if its possible and if so what years I should look for.

sorry dude, the 2-strokes were all straight axle chain drives. i dunno how extensive your looking to mod, but honestly, you could pick up an old 335 sportsman for cheap, and drop a 400 2-stroke into it. if you wanted 2 quads, you could put the 335 into whatever 400 machine you pick up... at least i think this is doable.... oh well, i think it's about the only way to get a 2-stroke IRS.

 

thanks guys switching the 335 motor would psh the budget for what I want it for, I think a 500 ho would work well enough for trail riding/ light bogging ETC. I'd love an 800 but the rpice tag is way to much.

 

i've been following a few SP800s on EBAY and they seem to be selling for around $6500.
