I dont think there is anything really different about a Rotax 4 stoke copmpared to other four strokes. IT uses a cam, valves, the usual stuff that comprises a 4 stroke, but the difference is in quality. ROTAX has been known to make dependable and high horsepower motors for years.

I may be wrong, If so please elaborate.

Roostking...

RoostKing, you are not wrong. Rotax in Austria has been known for their high performance engines for years, both two stroke and four stroke. Some examples of places you might find their engines, 600cc flat track racing bikes, ultra light aircraft (type 503 twin cylinder two stroke), Ski-Doo snowmobiles, Sea-Doo personal water craft, BMW motorcycles etc.

The motor in the DS650 is actaully the same (or based on) motor from the BMW F650GS. Go to this site for info on that motorcycle: http://www.cmgonline.com/CMG00/artic...50GS/home.html

Glenn.

Rotax builds quite a number of different engines exclusively for the experimental and ultralight aircraft market, both 2 stroke and 4 stroke. They are the "prefered" engine to have in most experimental and ultralight aircraft. A list of a few of Rotax's engines.
1. Rotax 277 ,single cylinder 2 cycle 28HP
2.Rotax 377, two cylinder 2 cycle 35HP
3.Rotax 477, two cylinder 2 cycle 40HP
4.Rotax 503, two cylinder 2cycle 46-50HP
5.Rotax 532, 2 cyl.,2 cycle,liquid cooled 65H
6.Rotax 582, 2cyl.,2cycle,liquid cooled 65HP
7.Rotax 618, 2cyl.,2cycle,liquid cooled 74HP
8.Rotax 912, 4cyl.,4stroke,liquid cooled 80HP
9.Rotax 914, same as 912 with turbo 115Hp
10.Rotax 912S, same as 912 with higher compression and 100HP.
Sorry to ramble, just wanted to say that Rotax does make many different engines besides what is offered in the ATV line.
