Default what effect will missing overflow hoses have on a Raptor carb?

I was at the dunes today doing some carb jetting and in the process lost my overflow hoses on my Raptor carbs(yes i set them on the quad and took off) and the lack of the hoses seems to have made my Raptor run like poo poo.I understand the internal workings of carbs and how to make adjustments to effect performance but frankly i have always just re installed the over flow hoses so i am confused as to how the lack of overflow hoses can have such a negative effect.Do the overflow hoses have that much to do with the vacuum on a carb?

they have almsot no effect, they just direct the over-flowing gas to the end of the chasis.
