Default 1998 Warrior shifting into neutral

Hola, I'm a new ATVer... just got a 1998 warrior from a friend of mine, and it's in (mechanically) great shape. The only issue it has is that it's hard getting it to shift into neutral. I either have to sit and play with it for awhile, or reach down with my hand and do it so that I don't keep shifting up. The guy I bought it from suggests the clutch needs replaced. I can get a clutch kit with the springs and plates for it off of E-Bay for about 65 bucks, but I was wondering is there anything else that could be the issue, or is there one particular part of the clutch that may be the problem, instead of replacing all the springs and plates? And is there a resourse online anywhere for replacing it or am I going to have to go buy a book for it? I'm not good with engine stuff but I learn quick.

Thanks!

I wouldn't buy a clutch, just adjust the cable. That may help.

Only buy a clutch if it is slipping.

I wouldn't do anything else. You will get used to finding neutral after you get some hours on it.

Spend your money on pipes, skid plates and etc.

Adjust the teeth on the shifter linkage. My Warrior is a 95 and I had the same problem. Your shift probably got bent down a little. adjust the teeth so the when you are looking from the side, the shifter linkage sits flat. you just undo the tightener bolt and move it up a couple teeth, Might tighten the linkage too if there was a little wobble in it like there was in mine. Hope this helps

you should try adjusting the clutch to make it engage more, my suzuki was the same way and when i adjusted it it was fine and be careful not to adjust it too much just go a little at a time.

Thanks... is there a place online where I can get a good idea on what exactly I'm looking at as I dive into the engine, or should I invest in a book?

you could also just try changin the oil. I have a couple 98 warriors. Seems like its easier to get a false nuetral than the actual nuetral. Easiest nutral is to take the reverse shifter and put it halfway between foreward and reverse.
