Default packing material?

what would happen if i removed some of the packing material from my fmf powercore? i know i have heard that no packing is robbing u of power what would happen other than a increase of sound? anything bad?

well the tube that runs down the inside of the pipe with all the holes in it...if there was no packing around this i would think the air rushing out would expand into the entire muffler and not just go strait through.

well i guess it would not flow through as good..when my packing gets down a ways i notice i have more torque...increased back pressure because the baffle holes are not squeezed tight with fiberglass rap... so some air can leak through them. Im just guessing here it wouldnt hurt to try it.

It would probably cause the bike to run a little funny, or maybe really bad. Engines have to have a certain amount of backpressure according to how you have it jetted. If you left out the material you would probably have to re-jet. I doubt you would get much more power out of it though, and it probably wouldn't sound all that great. More like a rattling can than an engine.

Taking the packing out will only make it louder, think of packing in the same regard as insulation in the walls of your home, but in the case of the pipe, it's more for sound proofing or muffling the sound. It won't do anything for performance, heck take all the packing out, put it back together and crank her up, you'll atleast get a taste of high db levels and probably **** off your neighbors, it's your quad, nothing wrong with experimenting
