Default dirtbike question

today i was riding my CR 250 and it was running great for hours. Then all of the sudden it started making a weird kind of grinding and clinging noise. It sounded like it was coming from the cylinder. i was worried that it was about to seize up. So then it stalled out and wont start up again. its not seized because i can still kick it over but it doesnt even come close to starting. I know its not the plug or anything because i checked that. Could it just need new piston rings or something like that? Thanks for any help.

I know when that happened to me on my older dirtbike about 3 years ago, I blew the crankcase.

was it the crankcase or crankcase seals, because when it happened to my blaster the crankcase seals blew and it bogged and died.

I am not sure but I know it was hella expensive to fix and it made a bad clinging sound when it would run, but it slowly seized on my and wouldnt kick at all.

yamaharider200, How does it sound when you kick it? Does it still feel like it has compression? How did the plug look?

Im guessing it is a plug by the way he describes it. Put a new one in and see what it does.

That depends on what "grinding and clinging noises" mean.

Im thinking more of that un-healthy pinging noise when there about to foul, I know the first time I heard one I thought something un-healthy was going on!

Default dirtbike question

Ok today i was working on the 250. I was listening to what it sounded like when i kicked it over and i heard a strange noise like there was an air leak. So i looked around and surely enough there was an air leak at the botton of the crankcase where the gasket is. I looked closer and realized that there was a smalll crack in the crankcase goin right to the gasket and this is where the air is coming from. When i kick it over a little oil and air comes out. the crack is very small. So is this the reason why it is not starting? I do not want to buy a new crankcase because of a little crack because they are about $300. I was thinking about putting some JB weld over it to stop the air leak. would this work? Thanks for the help guys.
