dirtbike question

Default dirtbike question

You can jb weld it but I'd look into having it welded up, much more reliable. Then again its more expensive and may approach the cost of a new one. I'd check around and see what a local shop would charge before I did anything.

Default dirtbike question

ya i was thinking about having my neighbor weld right over the spot where the air leak is but the thing about that is i would have to weld over where the right and left crankase meet where the gasket is so then if there was still a leak i would be screwed because i wouldnt be able to take it apart

If that condition was there for a long time you could have destroyed the topend. If not it may be ok. I would try some silicone first, the orange hi heat stuff. Then go to jb weld. It should run if the leak isnt that bad. If its a huge leak it could effect its ability to start but that would be a big leak. Is there any way you can post a picture of the crack , it would be really helpful.

Yes I think i might be able to get a picture of it. Im going to take the motor out of the frame tomorrow so i will borrow a friends camera and take a picture of it. I will let you know tomorrow if I got one or not. Thanks again for the help

Default dirtbike question

My first question would be why did the crankcase break? Me thinks something went boom on the inside, and that is why it broke the case. If that is true then welding the crack in the case is not going to fix the main problem. Sounds like it is time for a tear down.

Good point. any ideas what could have made it crack? The top end is still fine. I dont know maybe i just hit a rock or something
