Default Removing foot guards and adding wheel spacers

My son has an 05 blaster. To me it needs to be a little wider. I wanted to find out about which wheel spacers people were using and also did anyone remove the heal guards?

My son has an 03'. It has 22" razr's on it, and I put some 1 1/2" spacers on the back (screw on the stud kind), and flipped the front wheels around. I left the heel gaurds on and they don't seem to be a problem. It really helped to widen it out, corners much better now. I havn't noticed any ill effects from the spacers yet. We ride alot of tracks and trails, with mild jumping. (less than 6' high) As he gets older though, I think I'll change the axle to widen it out just to be safe.
