Drive belt for TrailBlazer 400
#1
I tried to pull out a much larger ATV yesterday. I was accellerating and the front wheels lifted. The engine revved up and I thought the tires were spinning but they didn't. There was a large puff of smoke from the clutch area that smelled like rubber. I'm guessing I burned up my drive belt but I haven't pulled it apart yet. I am planning on building this bike up a little more and I need a belt that can handle the extra HP. Anyone have any suggestions on who makes the best belt?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

How is it harder on the clutches? By reading the manufacturer's speal I gather that the belt is made out of a harder compound than the stock belt. Does it cause wear on the clutch?

Yes that's the belt I run. It's the one with cogs on both sides of the belt. It's like the other one on HPD's website below the kevlar belt. I think I paid 35 for mine but it could have been cheaper. It hooks up great!

It seems the place it wears most is at the bottom of the clutch sheave right at the beginning of engagement. They do this with the stock belts too. I just imagine it would be worse with a harder kevlar belt.?? But with you Ken I'm sure your not at that spot of the clutch very often.

there is a slight groove at the bottom of the sheaves, not enough to feel it in the performance or maybe it does effect it and im just not noticing it

by the way, you can by the kevlar Hpd belt from napa auto parts for 37 bucks instead of the 50 bucks plus shipping Hpd gets. that bit on the website about it being made exclusively for Hpd is bull. just use the dayco kevlar belt number to cross reference to the gates kevlar belt. there are 2 versions also, the extreme duty which is the same as the Hpd and the heavy duty. if anybody needs the exact number let me know i have the invoice around here somewhere.
