Best tires for Honda 250SX
#1
I want to replace the wheels/tires on my 250SX. I'm looking for an oem like tire...something like a Dunlop or a stock-like 400EX tire. Stock tire size is 22x11-8 all the way around. I'm sure I can do a little different in the rear, but front I assume must be this size so they won't rub on the forks.
Anyways, I found aluminum rims for the rear, but haven't had too much luck with the front. Does anyone make a front aluminum wheel for the 250SX? If not, then I assume a steel is made, and I can just 'paint' that Aluminum to match the rears.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

tkm,
the front rim is the same as a stock rear rim, so if you want an aluminum rim for the front, your probably gonna need to order an itp or douglas rim for it. if you find a rim with the right offset and its narrow enough to fit between the forks, your luccky, because as far as i know, there isn't any stock aluminum rim that will bolt in there. i could be wrong though. ask some other people on here to be sure, they prbably know something i don't. oh yeah, the bolt pattern is 4/110mm, same as any stock honda rear rim.

Douglas says that they have a rim that will fit the front as it's the sae as the rear, but ITP says that theirs will only fit the rear and not front.
Is the offset and width on the front wheel exactly of that of the rear? I can't find any specs from the front 250SX wheel anywhere.

The stock rims are 8" tall by 9" wide, and most aftermarket rims are 8x8.5" with the large bell needed to clear the breaks. That is probably the reason that they do not recommend replacing the front stock rim with most aftermarket rims. The offset would put your tire 1/2" to the side. I have used both the 8x8.5 and the 9x9 ITP rims (steel on former, alloy on later) on my 1996 250sx on the rear, and either work fine with the 4x110 pattern. I still use the stock rim for the front. As to tires, I use the Kenda 22x11x8 Front Max tire on the front. I tried the Bushwacker 22x11x8 on the front, but the lugs stick out too far to the side, and they rubbed on the fork boots. The Kenda front tire is a great front tire. I highly recommend it. I now use both the Bushwackers and some Kenda Klaw (20x11x9) tires on the rear, depending on where I am riding. The Bushwackers are good all-around tires. The Klaws are good trail tires where top speed is not a factor, as the 20" tires do increase the gear ratio and reduce the top speed.
