Default About to purchase '06 450R

Hi, im new here; actually just joined yesterday.

I just want to know what opinions you guys have of the 450 ('06): reliable, performance etc.

I used to ride quads when younger; however I stopped for several years... okay almost 10 years. I started riding recently (mostly Yamaha banshee's) and decided I wanted to buy a new bike. At age 8 I would ride my dads Suzuki 250 and could handle it no problem. I just want to know if its worth paying the extra $$ for the '06, or if I should settle for an '05

Thanks in advanced.

I really like my 05 so with the 06 improvements it should be an excellent quad! I'm sure you'll be happy with either one. Welcome to the forums!!!

All depends on how much money you have. The 06 is the obvious choice if the extra cash wont hurt ya. The 05 is still an awesome bike though so if you can find a good deal then that might be the way to go. The money you save can be used for mods

One of the Honda dealers here was advertising the 05 450R's cheaper than the 05 400EX's There are some significant changes to the 06, e-start availability and they totally redid the bore/stroke of the engine probably being the biggies. Unless you are going to be racing it, e-start would be the only big draw for me to the newest model.

The gearing was changed to make it more trail friendly too.

Hello -

I work in a dealers service department, new to this ATV stuff and the industry as a whole.

Rode several of the 05 TXR450R's, stock, modified, you name it.

They are quick and fun.

The 06 TRX450R is way quicker and faster than even the modified 05's I have ridden.

H9R's tips for the ohhhh six:

Run 50/50 regular gas and race gas.

You may need to have the mixture screw checked, we sold several and one was a little lean.

***If the head pipe glows red at idle, please, take it in for an adjustment.***

The HRC kits arrived at our shop last week.

I am bringing one home tomorrow, with the repair manual, to gear up as we have several commitments to it already.

If you want a blow by blow of the installation, we can do it for you.

The first kit gets installed Tuesday morning.

Exciting!

i have heard this as well. with the 06 HRC kit it is said to be even badder(obviously). i read on some site that it supposed to increase power by 30%. i dont know it thats true or not but do know that just the fact that they redid the engine to be more like the CRF is enough to make me believe that it will be much faster than the 04/05 models stock and modded. so if you take a bike that is already naturally faster and mod it, logically you make it more powerful.

it was said before on these forums and I agreed - the 06 is the bike honda should have released in 04. but they should have let the 04/05 light on it. looked better IMO. but at least they changed it. most thought they would sit back and be slow and not touch it for years. but i think honda finally woke up. "bold new graphics" wont cut it in this industry anymore. its great! we havent had competition like this since the late 80's. but remember and i dont mean to rant, we cant let the tree huggers and the atv haters destroy the market like they did back then. the sport market was only yamaha during this time...(thank God for yamaha keeping it going whether you hate them or not, personally ive had a few of them and they were fine bikes but not as refined as i would like)

then 10yrs later the 400ex arrived as what i think was a "test the waters" bike for honda and then since then, here we are in 2005. and 2006 will be the first year since 1988/89 that all the manuacturers had competitive, congruent lineups.

I just bought an '06 450R/ER two days ago. The thing is awesome. Rode a 400EX for the last 3.5 years. I love the ergos on the new bike. The e-start is very nice. Handles really well. Paid $6700 OTD from Western Honda in Scottsdale. They hooked me up with tons of gear also. I've got an HRC kit on order when they arrive in the next week or two.

Honda919rider-
What is the stock HP on the 450R? What will it be after the HRC kit is installed?

Thanks.
