2005 2x4 foreman 500.

I just purchased a 05 foreman 500 2x4 that is 4 months old. Is the new foreman a better rider than the old one.Do these have a spin on oil filter or cannister filter.I havent owned a honda in about 7 years,is the honda reliability still there.Couldnt afford a 4 wheel drive so had to settle for 2wd.Any replies appreciated.Thanks.

Not a spin on filter (at least on mine). Be sure to put the cartridge filter in properly (stamped on the filter) or it won't flow oil.
Suspension is sportier than previous versions. Most folks would say that Honda quality and reliability is unsurpassed.
Have fun with it.

I have a 2wd Rancher, and with the right tires it is a surprizingly capable machine! On a 4wd the extra weight is on the front axle, where it does the most harm. Keeping the front light, maintains at least some resemblance of sport bike handling.
If the bike is 4 months old, you should have changed the oil already, to get any metal shavings out of the engine (Hondas come pretty clean from the factory however........it's just an added precaution). Your owners manual tells you all about the oil filter, etc. Change your differential oil right away, as well.

You might be trying to run the idle too low. These Honda singles start better and run smoother off idle with what may seem like a too high idle setting. Just try leaving the idle a little higher next time out.
