banshee shifts up but not down
#2
This is just something to check. When installing the shift shaft,it goes over a rod with a slot(like where a flat head screw driver would go.It has a nut on the shaft. The end of the shift shaft goes over the shift star. The star has small pegs on it.The Distance between the pegs and both sides of the shift shaft should be the same or extremely close. You make the adjustment by loosening the nut on the rod with the slot and turning the rod with a screwdriver.Once you have it where you want it keep the screwdriver in the rod and tighten the nut. This might take several tries.Hope this helps.

My banshee did the same thing to me in the dark one night. I had 2 miles of dunes in 3rd gear, it was a good time.
Inside the clutch cover there is a stop for the shift star. It is the slotted screw driver part that was mentioned. That piece broke off, and let the shift shaft fall out,or off, the star. It is was basically a $5 fix, but the broken piece took off. It went past the clutch basket and then found its way into the main seal. I had to buy a clutch basket and split the cases to re-seal the crankshaft.
If you are still riding it, stop. Take it apart and find the problem. If you have better luck then me this will be it and you will be back on the dirt with a little stud and a clutch gasket.

That stud has a jam nut that is up against the case. I didn't see that anything was missing. A friend that works on enough banshees looked at it and saw the stud was missing.

is it easy to replace the stud? what is the part #? is there any way to see a picture of it, is there a picture you can email me? there is a piece that looks like it was a bolt that got sheared off - I want to make sure we are talking about the same piece. thank you and any help would be appreciated.

That was a few years ago. I don't have pictures, but in the service manual there was a good picture. There could be a photo online if you look around. If it is forward, and a little lower then the shift star, we are on the same part.
