Warn Winch Installation Help!
#1
I have 2005 Sportsman 700 and bought the Polaris, Warn winch kit for it. It is supposed to be a simple install according to their website (30 minutes). I worked on it today for a couple hours and it looks like I need to buy battery cables to run to the solonoid box from the battery. I thought this was supposed to be all plug and play. And they say to mount the box as close to the battery as possible, but with the wires that come with the kit I would have to mount the solonoid box in the front under the headlight nowhere near the battery. Does anyone know if the Sportsman is pre wired to acccept this winch with just plug and go connections? Has anyone installed this winch on their Sportsman?
Thanks for any help you can offer,
Dave.

Dave,
Their quote of 30 minutes is BS....took me probably a couple of hours working slowly...
As far as the 'box', are you talking about the contactor/solenoid? It mounts in the right front fender, if you look in there you will see a bracket on your '05 machine that is already mounted there, thats where the contactor mounts to. You do not need to put it near the battery as the machine is prewired for this.
Now another question, did you buy thing winch that is made for the prewired machines? There is a winch setup that is made to install in the 2005 machines....if you didn't get that winch setup, it will be alittle different to setup.
I do have the instructions, will need your email address, either post it here or send me a PM.
If you did buy the winch that is for the pre-wired 2005/06 machines, you do not need any additional cables, etc.

It should be the winch for the prewired machines, it has Polaris right on the box. The black box I'm talking about is the black contactor with 4 color coded screws.
Thanks, Dave.
Thanks, Dave.
