Default 400ex neutral light

i have an 04 400ex and it wont start unless it's in neutral..I.E. the neutral light has to be on. This is a pain in the @** when trail riding. Can I bypass that light and make my quad start when I pull the clutch, regaurdless of the gear????

Hmmm... my 99 starts in gear when I pull the clutch in, are you sure yours will not do the same? Look at your clutch lever. If the 04 is like the 99's it will have a switch on it, and if it does then there must be a problem with the switch.

yea. I've tried a million times to get it to fire over in gear by pulling in the clutch, but it won't work. What does the switch look like on the clutch?

You cant really see the switch but you should be able to see 2 wires going to a little black rectangular box on the clutch perch. You should also be able to hear a little click when the clutch is pulled in as well as the switch trips. Maybe they removed it for some reason, Ill look on bikebandit.com and see but I bet yours is just not working.

Yeah yours should have it unless you have something other than a stock perch that has been changed out. It is item # 5.

take the 2 wires going to the clutch perch off and hook them together with a jumper wire and see if it will start in gear then. MAKE SURE U PULL THE CLUTCH WHEN YOU TURN IT OVER. i know it sounds stupid but i had the same problem and got so frustrated i forgot to do just that bc i was holding the wires with my clutch hand. straigt into the back of pops HD. i felt like the biggest jackass ever!!!
