Scrambler 500 Driven Clutch
#1
I just removed the driven clutch on my Scrammy 500. I have owned this 2000 model about 3 months, so I am not sure what has been done to the clutch in the past. The clutch seems to NOT engage quick enough and the engine seems to run too high RPM's while trail riding at a moderate speed.
Someone recommended I replace the buttons on the driven clutch becasue they might be worn out. I was expecting the 3 buttons to be completely worn down, but they do not look that bad to me. But, it also seems strange that the helix has some groves in it. Is this normal to have groves in the helix? Do I need to polish these groves out of the helix or replace it?
The spring was set in hole 1 and 1. Should I try a different setting to get a more aggressive clutch engagement? I already have new buttons installed, but need answers to the questions above.
I posted pictures for anyone who can give me some insight if this is normal wear or not.
Thanks

the scratches look a little excessive
polish them out with emery cloth and scotch brite
set your secondary spring on 2-2 which is stock
1-1 is the second from max tension so you will probably have good bottom end and backshift but will probably drag your max speed down a bit
I run a violet HPD secondary spring set on 2-3 and 2 grams heavier primary weight and a white primary spring make sure your belt is sticking up out of the secondary by about 1/16 inch by adding the appropriet secondary shims
don't run too much belt side clearane or belt defletion both will kill your bottom end

The spring appears to be white or silver. Yes this is the Driven clutch spring I am working on. I posted a picture of the spring. The Drive clutch spring looks to be blue with a green mark on it. I have not removed it, I just looked at it as I removed the driven clutch.

use a white polaris primary
2 grams heavier weights
violet HPD secondary in the 2-2 position and you should be right in the sweet spot
make sure you hit your target rpm i think is around 6000 rpm I can't remember
when I set up my clutches (snowmobile or atv) I normally drop the weight until machine falls flat Or overrev (same thing)
then I slowly add until it doesnt pull any harder or starts to get lazy

The rpm range on a 500 is 6500-6800 with this set up here you will be in the 6200-6500 range with stock weights. If you want more rpms check out my sig. I run 6750 on top.But that is with alot of tunning.
