Default 2005 Sportsman 500 engine noise

Anyone had this problem... I purchased a new 2005 Sportsman 500. When the engine is idleing, I can hear a slight clanking noise coming from the engine. The dealer told me it's the counterbalancer gear and it's nothing to worry about. I have had other Sportsman and never noticed this noise. Anyone else experience this?

I've heard the complaint many a time. My 04.5 500HO has a sound to it that my 04.5 400 doesn't. I believe it to be normal.

I also believe that its normal. A few weeks ago I went down to my dealer to test ride a few of the new machines and one of them was a 2005 700efi, and among other strange noises, that clunk was present at idle. It could be something in the cvt doing that because my prarie sounded very similar, that actually had to be fixed under warranty, but since this polaris i rode does it also, its probably normal.

All polaris' will make this noise at one point or another. It is a noise in the drive clutch. The drive clutch has buttons and depending how they wear or how it is put together they will have a slight clunk noise. It is nothing to worry about. Some do it more than others.

Sorry but this is definitely not the drive clutch. It’s in the engine. It sounds like a clicking or metal tapping sound. Can only hear it with the engine is in idle

Maybe it is the valves tapping. I know they need to be adjusted at your first service. This was big with the 500's.
