I need to buy a bigger Quad for my Daughter, I looking at the Honda 250ex. Has anyone had one these quads for couple of years? If so, how are they holding up? Any problems with the shaft drive?
Any intelligent thoughts on this quad would be helpful.
Thank.

Absolutely bulletproof in terms of reliability. A fun machine, and easy to ride. Good for older kids or beginner adults. The only things I would fault is that the stock tires make it push (understeer) a little in turns. I switched them out for Holeshot XC's, so that solves that. The suspension is a bit tight, but it is an entry level machine anyway.
The 06 got some redesigns, and I haven't ridden one yet, so who knows about it............

We bought a 2003 250EX for Christmas in 2003 and it has been excellent. We were all beginner riders at that point and it has been a good quad to learn on. I'm no expert, but the 250 is still my choice for goofing off (wheelies and donuts). My youngest son is a small 12 year old (about 80 lbs) and he has learned to handle the machine very well. He is light enough that the 250 can keep pace when we cruise the dunes.

I bought 21x10x8 Geckos on Douglas .190 wheels for the 250 (package deal from Rocky Mountain ATV). In hindsight, I should have gone with the .160 wheels to save weight. The .160 wheels on our Suzuki are plenty strong enough. The Skat Traks are quite a bit lighter, but I worried about the kids hitting rocks or debris and puncturing the tires. The Geckos are tough, but heavy.

We just love our 250Ex here in the Ozarks. It's Dependable and with the Razor 2 tires it goes everywhere our 4 wheel drive's go and some places they want go. My buddies 700 polaris is so heavy it sinks and get stuck and my daughter just smiles and rides right around him. There great bikes!

my friend had one for 3 years. NEVER had a problem. regular oil changes and that was it. it ran on the factory plug the whole time. he was 15-18 when he had it and it was rode HARD its whole life. i cant say enough about the durability of these machines. honestly if he couldnt break it i dont think it is possible. i dont know how many hills it rolled down and landed on all 4 still running. they are probably the best made quads as far as reliability!!!

The little 250 actually does pretty well in the sand. As far as tires, you want to keep it LIGHT. We run buffed-down Skat-Traks. Six-paddle Edges out back, and Mohawks up front. All on light Douglas Blue Label rims.
