I just bought the 06 Honda TRX250EX and LOVE it! Did the 05 have a sportscluth? There are a few pics of it on my profile page. I am getting ready to get it piped and jetted w/ a K&N filter. Just waiting for the parts to come in.

You Fockers should consider a blaster. Better suited for the sand.

I have a 11 year old son who's big for his age - 5'-1" and 130 lbs - he rides a Honda 250 Recon and it fits him well. The Recon is very similar to the EX - same motor, trans, and shaft drive. His 17-year-old, 140 lb. sister rides our other Recon, and a female cousin (good athlete, age 12) rides the Recons with ease. All three of those kids were new to ATVs, and it took about a day to get the hang of foot-shifting. The only trick about shifting is when they come to a stop in soft sand in a high gear, the 250 transmission will not shift all the way back to first via the shift lever. Same is true for virtually any automatic-clutch quad. The kids had to learn to rock the machine back and forth a little bit while down-shifting.
The 250 Recon is big enough for normal-size adults, but in hills and loose sand it's a bit under powered for me (250 lbs). On hard-packed trails it's great - my favorite.
At Sand Mountain (700 ft high, soft sand dune - similar to Glamis) the 250 Recon will take me about 200 feet straight up the hill. My 330 Rancher will go about 400 ft, and our 350 Wolverine about 600 feet. The nice thing about that is the inherent safety, relative to the steepness. The Recon won't climb so high that it will roll when turned sideways. The Ranchers are right on the edge of tipping - when a Rancher runs out of power, you have to stay on the uphill side of the machine if you turn sideways and stop. The Yamaha Wolverine will go nearly to the top of Sand Mountain, where it's very steep - if someone stopped half way through a "whip-turn", the machine would probably roll a long way down the hill.
Kids have a blast with the Recons in the bowls and dunes. The machines go better in soft sand with less air in the tires - about 2 psi. Remember to pump the tires back up to 3 or 4 psi when riding on rocky trails (to avoid pinching and cutting the sidewalls).
Good Luck!

I'm sure you started this post Fockers....we are picking up a 250ex this weekend for our son too. We're selling the 80 Raptor so this can happen...wooohooooooo
Glad to see that everyone that has one is very pleased. My husband is most concerned with the sportclutch/shaft drive setup. Is the hand clutch an override? or just there for looks?

Hotrodder,
This is my first ATV. I am totally hooked though. I love it. What is a trail tech system and a rev box? What do you think top speed of it is stock and then top speed w/ the pipe and jets? I was told 40-45 stock.

51 is stock speed when i first got my trail tech iot is a speed device used to see how fast you go. my four wheeler now with every thing but the exaughst goes 58 but thats with the rev boxes wut they do is give the extra boost when you are at full throttle. but i would say 55 for just the jet and exaghst as a estimate. The air filter doesent and much maybe a 1/2 a horse the purpose of it is to get claener air throug the motor.
