I just picked up my sportsman 500 EFI, the speedo head indicated the bike was overheating!!! So I shut It down! It had one mile on it!!! The dealer told me it was a false sensor reading!!! They need to add a resistor to the sensor!! Any one heard of this???? Also there seems to be some transmisson slap when you first give it gas!!! I know this happens in the larger bore Machines!! Any one heard of this in the new 500 EFI!! Note: Throttle respones is excellant with the EFI!!

I have 400 miles on my 500 efi and I have gotten the same "hot" message. The bike is not Hot!!!! Keep riding it. My dealer has ordered the fix. This has been reported by other new 500 owners on several forms....I do not notice a any transmission slap on mine.. Infact it has far less clunks and driveline slap than my previous 600 and 700.... Enjoy the ride.

Just got mine back this week for the same problem. A new sensor is on order. Dealer said ride it...it will not hurt it and he will replace the sensor when it arrives in Dec so I did. Sensor came on again for about 5 minutes today and then went off. I experience the same slippage when starting from a stop or slow roll. This beast proved itself today though. I will work through the querks.

Does anyone know if the sensor is defective and they are replacing it with a different one to correct the problem? I pick up my 2006 500EFI on tuesday. Should I have the dealer order a new sensor? Also, Why is the price of the Mossy Oak higher, is there anything extra besides the color? My 2004.5 500HO had rack extentions on it. Does the 2006 500EFI Mossy Oak have rack extentions? Well I hope they work out the 500EFI problems soon.

extra cost ($300 i think) is for the Mossy-Oak finish. feel the fender and you'll know what i mean. it's worth it!
Dealer told me today to ride it to see if the overheat icon comes on. told me some do it, some don't. gotta ride it a few miles to find out.

I guess I'll ride mine for a while and see if it flashes, "Overheating." That sucks about the rack extentions. My 2004.5 500HO Mossy Oak came with both front and rear rack extention. In 2005, I believe all Mossy Oak quads came with rear rack extentions. Oh well, I better stop complaining. Starting tomorrow I will enjoy my new 500EFI...
Thanks.
Thanks.
