Yes I have the owners manual for my 05, 400ex.

It says to start the engine and let it run for 5 minutes, then remove the dipstick. I assume that it's checked with the quad running since it does not say to turn the thing off.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

 

Let it run for 5 minutes.Turn it off and wait 2-3 minutes then pull out the dipstick,wipe it off,put it back in without screwing it in and pull it out and check it.That should be how much oil you have.

Thats what I thought but no where in the owners manual does it say to turn the engine off b4 removing the dipstick.

 

u have to turn the engine off so the oil doesnt run down onto the dipstick when u put it in to check the level.

 

you checked the oil with the motor running? wow.......

 

Just like an automatic trans in a car.

 

Oil comes out the hole. It reminded me to put the dipstick back in, real quick.


Alot of CAT engines have marks on both sides of the stick. One for running and one for not.

 

No oil came out of my hole. The hole is only about 1/4 inch in diameter or less. Real PITA to add oil.

I find it odd that the owners manual DOES NOT anywhere say to turn the bike off to check the oil level. It does tell you to start the engine b4 checking the oil.

 

me n my friends went riden and he decided to check his oil on the trail for to screw it back on and rode for liek 30 mins...lucky he didnt mess up the internals
