OK, if you go buy a car or truck and you look at the engine and is says 350, 454, 427, 460, 351, 429, 1.8L, 2.8L, 2.5L ect. ect. That is what you actually get.

So why do they lie on atv's? I mean a 300ex is only 282cc. A sportsman 800 is only 760, a vinson 500 is only 493, and a new raptor 700 is only 686.

The only ones that are not lieing, that I can think of, are the raptor/grizzly 660, the predator/scrambler 500(actually 499 but close enough) and a z400 (actually 398)

I can see being 1-9cc's off but 40!! WTF? If you are going to call something a given size it should at least be close, right?

 

The atv companies do NOT infer that a 300ex has 300 ccs. They had a 282cc motor that they deceided to round up the number and call it a 300ex.

Yes, I agree that it seems a bit misleading, but that's only because we ASSUME that the model number is reflective of it's exact displacement (some companies exaggerate more than others). A close look at it's specs on the disclosure statement will give you the exact ccs.

I have yet to see a car or truck that gets the MPG that they advertise on their sticker.

Not here to argue, just discuss.

 

LOL, good point IdahoVinnie. I really don't see it as that big of a problem. An educated consumer is going to know what he/she is about to purchase. The nmodel numbers are close enough to put the quad in the right class for comparisons usually, and that works for me.

They do it for a better appealing name and car companies do it to a Mustang 5.0 does not have a 5.0L engine

Boat manufacturers do it to. It seems that in this kind of marketing, the basic rule of math is that any fraction over a whole number is rounded up. There are a bunch of 20' boats out there that are 19' - 2" long.
