I brought my sandblasted DS parts and frame to a local powdercoater. They have done some small stuff for my Raptor and DS (Foot Pegs, etc). However there are some areas on the DS that has openings that look like it will be difficult for powdercoating paint to enter (on the top cross members and a gusset at the end). When I dropped it off to the coaters they said they won't be able to coat those areas.

My question to you guys, was there any areas where the powdercoating didn't reach or get? I would hate to to her all back together and find some serious rust in 6 months.

 

i had mine done a while ago and i dont remember any areas that did not get coated??? i wash my quad all the time and ride in wet conditions alot and i dont have any rust. now ya got me wondering ????? if it was not like 10 degrees and dark out i would go look[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img] anyway dont sweat it. just get it coated. you will be happy. tell them to put it on thick though. mine is thick and bulletproof hardly any scratches or chips at all after alot of riding. good luck

 

I have had bad and good powder coaters, yours sounds bad before he even started!! Find ya a can do guy

 

Yea I know where you are talking about but I told the coater to get some bown in there and he did. Make sure to get the coating sanded off where the ground cable attaches from the battery to the frame and even where the front mtor mounts bolt up or you will have grounding problems. Oh yea and do it around the mounts for the 2 front coils. Grounding issues are a pain but if you do it right the first time you will save yourself alot of headaches.

 

What is the advantage of powder coating?

 

Lastlaugh welcome to the forum.. The advantages of powdre coating is a extremely hard finish that stands up to abuse very well.

Entomber, ive got to agree with those who said you got a bad powder coating place. Id say its lazyness that keeps them from getting full coverage. Ive had a lot of equipment painted as well as a couple of dirt bike frames too and they got in all the tight spots.

 

i just had mine done this summer, and there were no areas that were not covered. they do quads, bmx bikes, buggies, truggies, cars and whatever you can throw at my powdercoaters
