Yesterday i was riding and the bolt thing that comes out of the engine and your shifter is connected to broke. What is this part called? It stickes out of the engine and has teeth on it. You slide the shifter lever on it.
One more thing, its for a 400ex.

It is your shift shaft. Do a search and you can find additional info about what is necessary to replace this shaft. It runs under $75 from ServiceHonda.com.
My recommendation and what I have done on one of mine:
Get a stock shift lever and have a good welder reattach it. There is an oil seal in behind it that the welder should be made aware of. Any decent welder will reattach without harming this oil seal. If you already have a leak there, make sure you replace this seal first.
You don't have to do this step but I recommend it. Use a dremel or a grinder to remove part of the metal where the welder will reattach the shifter. Basically, you are trying to give him/her more metal to weld. Cut a piece out of it like you are cutting a piece of pie.
