Does anyone else get annoyed by the fact that most quads don't have a working brake light? I walked around with my salesman last night, and we checked for them on several makes and models. Some did, and some didn't. As this is a very inexpensive item to include, I don't understand why it shouldn't be standard on every quad. Everyone goes on and on about safety, but ignores this simple item.

The SP500 I bought last night has a brake light, but my Kawasaki Prairie 400 doesn't. Apparently the Prairies sold in Canada are required to have one. I ran across the wiring schematic for the Canadian model in the service manual.

I was at the Michigan DNR site last night and noticed that a brake light is required to ride after dark. Ok, I'm done now Just Wondering...

Are you sure it said a "break light" and not a "tail light"? Most of the states require a "marker light" or "tail light" that can be seen 500 feet from the rear of the ATV and is only required after dusk.
I am with you on the saftey thing - you would think it would be required on all ATV's for both "tail" and "break" lights but only some of the makers are getting ahead of the game and making it standard equipment - good going Polaris!

After riding with the people I do I would love to see everyone have one.

 

They are very useful. And a safety feature. How many times did that little red light alert you to someone else slowing down? Where I live quads are road legal as long as you run with the lights on, use hand signals, and obey traffic laws. They are legal on blacktop roads and in towns (but not state highways as far as I know) if they have a working brakelight and are fitted with a flag. The brake light is a bonus as I have a mile of blacktop to travel on to get to my brother's place so I don't get a ticket this way.

I did check the Michigan DNR site again just to be sure, and a brake light is required in addition to a tail light.
