Default Which quad?

Ok I'm very new to this (know absolutly nothing) but had a go on a quad yesterday and decided I have to have one lol.

I'm not sure whether to get road legal or not - can you use road legal quads off road without bits falling off all over the place?

I'm from the UK so my product range is probably more limited than most on here.

I want something that has both speed and reliability. A sporty look would be nice too.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Might be a good point to say I have virtually no riding experience.

Also, I won't be racing. Just be using it for street/trails.

I'm 20, 5' 10" and 155lbs.

Maybe one of the 400's: the Honda 400EX or the Suzuki Z400. Both have superb handling. They are tame enough for a beginner, but yet an advanced rider can still have fun on one. Both engines hop up well when you are ready for more power.

Start by going to the different manufacturers web sites, and getting familiar with what models they all offer. The big four are Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki.

You really think a 400 would be ok for a complete novice?

I've only ridden a couple of times.

Is it easy enough to make a quad road legal? Or should I buy one already done?

Default First quad?

I have read several posts indicating there is no where to legally ride a ATV in the UK accept private property. I did however read that there are street-legal 4 wheelers but I beleive off-road riding is prohibited on all pubic property even if the machine is legal for the street.

A check of local law would be prudent before purchasing anything.

You can buy road legal quads here, it never used to be allowed but now it's not a problem.
