stubburn a-arm problem..Need advice please
#1
I just bought a 99 banshee and have been going through it doing some of the maintnence that the previous owner neglected to do..I am trying to put new bushings in but have ran into a problem..I can not get the upper a-arm Screw out for the life of me..The bolt came off fine but the screw will not come out..The weird thing is i can spin it with my hand but can not get it to come off..I took the zerk fitting off and filled it up with penetrating oil and waited a couple hours with no luck..Any advice will be greatly appreciated..

I think you mean that the nut came off but the bolt is still stuck. try putting a block of wood against the threaded end of the bolt and hitting the block with a hammer. The wood keeps the hammer from damaging the threads, and should knock the bolt out.

Hey Lethaface I just completed the same task you are performing now. I found the best thing to do is to remove the exhaust pipe so you can get to the Bolt easier. Then like Recon said used a Piece of wood or a Brass punch and knock the bolt out. when you get it out use some emory cloth and clean it up real good then smear it with grease when you reinstall it.
You can also use the Bolt to knock out the old Bushings. Hope this Helps I had to Learn the Hard way.

Yeah i had my terms backwards..I was furious at the time and my mind was racing faster than my fingers could type..The block of wood idea didn't work..I beat that thing like crazy with a punch and a BF hammer..I finally gave up on it and took it to the local shop..They said the upper bolts are bad for freezeing up..So they are going to go ahead and do the job for me..When i get it back i will go ahead and replace all the bearings and seals and she's ready to ride ..Anyways thanks for the tips guys
