Opinions needed: BF 650 vs Prairie 700
#1
I am considering selling my '02 650 and buying one of these units. The price would be about the same. My question- which is the better machine? Does one have a better rep than the other? What about value/re-sale? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks!

My understanding is that the Brute is a Prairie (for the most part) with a smaller motor and different plastics. They share most of their parts with eachother. One would think the resale value on the P700 would be slightly higher because of its higher initial cost. As far as one machine being better than the next, I would say only in the power department. The obvious one is the Prairie 700 (697cc) has 64cc's more than the Brute 650 (633cc).
You can look at this way...you can get the Brute 650 (SRA) and save some dough for some tires (because the stockers suck) or whatever...Or you could spend about $500 more and get 64cc's more power. Unless of course you are looking at the Brute 650i (IRS) which in that case you are getting independent rear suspension instead of the solid rear axle.
I personally found a better deal on the Brute 650. I don't care for the look of the Prairies as I like the aggressive looks of the Brute much more.
Hope I helped.

I feel the same, they are both good machines. I like buying things that have been around for a couple years. ( i.e. P700) This gives the factory a chance to work out kincks and problems. I think if you shop it pretty hard you can still find new 2005 P700 for 5,500-5,600. You prob. can'nt find a 650 for the same $$$. I love the Team Green Edition P700. Looks much better than the 1984 red and green. I rode a IRS BF750 and hated the IRS set up. The solid rear axel has a much better feel for agressive trail riding. The torque allows you to steer with the rear wheels as well as the front. The IRS seems to allow too much body roll. The Prairie plastic stinks bad, like on your 650. The 700 has a slight vibration I don't like compaired to the 650. My '02 650P had 4K when I sold her without any engine problems.
The 650 twin is used on more quads than any other twin.

There is no difference between the two except for what everyone has already mentioned. Biggest diff is the price. I prefer the BF cause it looks bad ***. You can make a 650 go just as fast as the 700. Get the camo 650. You'll be payin just as much as a regular 700P almost. I think?? Can't remember prices.
