Default inhereited a 2004 AC 500 auto 4x4 have a simple question

Sorry for the rudimentary questions, but I have aquired a 2004 AC 500 4X4 with the auto. I would like to change the oil, but I have not yet gotten my hands on an owners manual and know liuttle about the main tenance on the atv.

Is there a sight glass on my particular model?? If so, where is it? I do not see one, but want to be sure.

Should I check the oil level via the dipstick? Should the stick be threaded or not?

Is the bolt just underneath the filter on the right hand side a drain for the filter?

I was told the crankcase holds 3.5-4 qts is this correct?

Thanks!

No sight glass, dipstick and it is NOT suppose to be threaded in to check level.

The drain plug for draining the oil in under the engine. There is a hole in the skid plate for you to reach it. The plug by the filter is for draining the oil filter before you remove it (I have a flat pan that fit under the filter and just remove the filter as there is gonna be a mess no matter what you do but the pan contains it a little).

When you buy a filter kit from Arctic Cat ( I do this because I am using AC's synthetic oil and it is way cheaper than buying the oil and the filter seperate, even an after market filter) they come with a filter and a gallon of oil. I put in about 3 1/2 quarts and start the engine to fill the filter and then let the engine sit 5 minutes before checking level and topping off the oil. That way you won't over fill it. Mine seems to hold 3 3/4 quarts, but each machine can be different.

AC recommends you change oil every 300 miles with dino (petroleum) oil and every 600 miles with synthetic (another reason to use sythetic). Make sure the oil you use is rated for wet clutchs or it can get real expensive real fast.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.

TY for the response. Should I refill the crankcase through the dipstick port?
