Cat 300 4x4, 2,3 and 4 Lock?
#1
How do you modify the front linkage to have 2,3 and 4 lock? Do you have true 4x4 when the Cat is modified this way? Has anyone had any problems with their front differential after the modification?

Here's a copy of an email I've sent to numerous folks inquiring about this. I've done this mod to my bike and it works great...
you have to modify the cable that goes to the diff in
the front. there is a
collar over the wire where it attaches to the lkever
on the diff. i took a
pipe cutting tool and cut off about a .5 inch of the
collar. this gives the
addtional travel you need. then you nned to fabricate
a new bracket the hang
the wire from near the diff. i just used some old
sheet metal i had laying
around. the lever on the diff needs to be taken off
and reattached so all
the positions on the diff can be attained by moving
the lever to each of the
3 positions (top 2wd -in middle 4wd- bottom 4wd lock)
you'll have to play
with the wire adjusters to get the most travel from
the wire. Keep in mind
that after you cut off the collar and you select 2wd,
the handle on the
fender will stick out about a .5 inch more and you
will see the wire core
from the cable
