05 SP500 vs. 06SP500
#1
A couple of questions that I sure need direction on...
What are the differences between the two model years. I have offer from a dealer to sell me a 05 SP500 for about 5890. Good deal or not? Should I find a 06? Should I buy 450?
Basically HELP!!!

Sounds like a great deal. Go with the 500 it is proven and has been around for years. It is the first year for the 450 and the 500efi so give them some time to work out all the kinks. You will be happy with the SP 500 and that is a good price.

Spoke to another dealer who contended the changes between the two are cosmetic.
This dealer quoted 5866 for an 06 out the door...lower than the other...good price?

the 450 motor is the exact same motor as the 400 exept uses a few parts from the 500 H.O.'s motor.
the changes between 2005 and 2006 are as follow:
Sportsman 800 clutch added to all sportsmans
2006 500 H.O.'s no longer get PXT tires
4 additional grease zerks added (late model 05's aswell)
need to use brake when shifting removed
updated hillard differential
thats about it

The 05 500HO has the 26 inch tires and the 06 500HO carb has 25's, except the EFI, it has 26's. Also, in 06 they took out the brake having to be depressed to shift to high and park. (I personly like having to use the brake to change gears). I also heard, I have not verified though, that in 06 the transmission is the same as the 700 and 800. Also no EBS on the 06 500HO carb. Also the EFI is also an HO. Just on the Mossy Oak they don't put the sticker on it. But it's on all the others. If you don't need EFI, and you can get the 05 500HO, I would get the 05.

'05, hands down. better tires, EBS from factory, no local yahoos messing with your machine. see if you can get the dealer closer to $5,500 out the door, remind him it's a leftover and is old news. don't let "sales talk" get in the way!
