Default smoking after oil change-valve adj. Please help

Hello, I Have a 2003 660 raptor I just changed my oil and adjusted the valves and now it smokes for about a half min when starting it after its been sitting for a couple hours. It never did this before the oil change and valve adjust I used 2 quarts and 14oz of valvoline atv oil 10-40 I'm not sure what the oil was in it prior because a dealer changed it last time. I did drain the tank and engine and changed the filter. Thanks in advance for a reply.

I'd check your valve clearances again. If it only smokes on startup it's probably just the valve adjustment since you just messed with it. If your clearances are good, your valve seals probably decided to take a crap on you, and it just happened to occur during the adjustment.

Default smoking after oil change-valve adj. Please help

Hello again, I did check my valves twice after rotating the engine over a few times. I just wonder if I have too much oil in and that could be doing this? I don't know anybody else run into this after an oil change and valve adjustment?

As long as your oil level shows up on the dipstick in the cross-hatched zone you won't have trouble with the oil level being too high. I've heard of this happening with a raptor 350 once, and it ended up being the valves were adjusted with the wrong specs.

Does the quad start easy?....if it does than the valves adjustment should be ok.
Valves being out of adjustment will have no effect on oil being burned.........What color is the puff of smoke?
Could be a fuel related issue

You may have damaged a valve seal when you were adjusting the valves. I don't know what else could be causing this. Maybe someone else has another idea, but that's all I can come up with

Ok I think I have found the problem…I have narrowed it down to two or three things it is not smoking at startup anymore the things I changed are as follows…
1 changed oil to yamalube 20-40
2 drained tank put in fresh gas
3 put in 2 quarts and 10oz of oil
I think the problem was the fuel in the tank that I put in from a can the same day I did the service the gas in the can had sta bil fuel preservative added to it in the fall probably too much. The reason I think it was the fuel and not the oil is because I also serviced my sons 300ex valve adj and oil change with the vavoline 10-40 atv oil but I also filled his tank up with the same gas and his is smoking for 20 to 30 seconds at startup too. Yes I do feel like a complete retard for not catching this. Thank you all for the help and I think these forums are fantastic. I need to make a donation to the web site. Thank you all again.
