I OWN A 99 GRIZZLY & IM HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING IT. THE SOLENOID JUST CLICKS CONTINUOUSLY IF I
HOLD THE STARTER BUTTON. I PUT A NEW BATTERY IN & STILL THE SAME PROBLEM. I THEM TRIED JUMPING THE SOLENOID. IT STARTED BUT THE STARTER WAS SLOW TO TURN OVER.I PULLED THE STARTER OUT TO CHECK THE BRUSHES ETC ALL SEEMS OK. WHEN THE BIKE HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR A WHILE & I SHUT IT OFF IT STARTS FINE.

 

Offhand....I say that "jumping" the solenoid tells me that it's bad. As far as the engine turning over slow.....how cold is it up there and what weight oil do you have in the engine?

WHEN JUMPING THE SOLENOID NOT ALWAYS DOES IT START. IT SOMETIMES JUST ARCS ON THE SOLENOID
& STARTER TURN LIKE BATTERY IS LOW. IV ALWAYS RAN 10W40,BUT THIS HAPPENS EVEN IN MILDER WEATHER
LIKE -5 DEGREES. I NOTICED 2 SMALL WIRES RUNNING TO THE SOLENOID ?? ANYWAY I CAN TEST IT???

 

Check your ground connections. Clean the contacting areas, and sand the oxidized layer off, so its bright and shiney, then put them back together.
Check both terminals on the battery, for clean and non oxy surfaces, make sure they are snug.
Its posible you got a defective battery. Charge it up, and have it load tested.
If the battery is good, then id suspect the starter next.

I CALLED YAMY DEALER FOR SOME PRICES, & HE NOTIFIED ME THAT THE STATER PLATE IS A COMMEN PROBLEM
WITH THESE BIKES FOR THE SAME STARTING COMPLAINT. IF ANYBODY HAS ANY INFORMATION OR CAME ACROSS THE SAME PROBLEM FILL ME IN. BIG JOB????
