Hey guys.
to say the least, i'm confused. My Trail Boss was broke in properly, i weight 142lb, and when i test the top speed, i lay down forward with my helmet almost touching the handle bar clamp. I have raced, side-by-side with my dads quad and his jeep. and both read around 51-53. now, i've been hearing how the boss only goes 43 and to say the least, i'm a bit confused about why mine is faster. some questions:

1) WAS YOUR BIKE BROKE IN PROPERLY AND AT LEAST 3 MONTHS OLD WHEN YOU CHECKED THE SPEED?

2) HAW MUCH DO YOU WEIGH?

3) what is your altitude?

thanks alot, if anyone else has a boss that hauls liek mine seems to, please post.

some atv's are faster for some reason could be a combo of things. my Yamaha Warrior was faster than any one i raced, they would be wide open and i could go by them, it was stone stock, people told me it felt like a two stroke compared to theres. Same thing as my dad's 1995 Pathfinder same as mine, except the color his gets better mileage no matter whether i am driving it or he is driving mine. It is weird as hell why those things happen.

My T-Boss is not fully broke in yet. It only has 1 tank of gas thru it so far. When it was 1/2 hour old I did a quick drag against my brothers 220 Bayou (uni filter and re-jetted but otherwise stock). I was much faster on takeoff but he caught me on topend. I didn't go very long due to being somewhat careful. After one tank of gas we ran against it again to see if it had changed any, again not fully wound out for very long. This time I jumped out even quicker and just kept pulling away. I have yet to check its actual speed to know for sure. I think that after full break-in it will be up to what you said. Just as a point of reference, the Bayou will pull away on top-end from a 300 Honda 4X4, so I'm guessing 45 would be a reasonable guess of it's topend speed.

Hey 325boss~
That is really strange! I weigh about 170 lbs and I am at roughly the same elevation as you. When I tried the top speed runs, the machine was about 6 months old, so it was broken in pretty good. I have heard polaris atv speedos are about the most accurate out there. Side be side, my scrambler read 43 and explorer read 44. GPS read right in the middle of the two. I can't think of any reason why or how yours would be about 8 MPH faster!?! But if it is, more power to you! Maybe Polaris gave you the limited edition model!! Only one made!!

Hey Pathfinder:
I just realized something with your remark about your warrior running like a two stroke, mine seems to too. It doesn’t feel to be that torquey at all with little throttle. But when it hits mid range, it has soooooooo much power. One other thing, Since I have bought it, the Engine has begun to rev to a higher top RPM. The gain in top end RPM has stopped but it is still higher then it used to be, and it used to go like 47. It’s all really weird and if I don’t get a response here, I may post another thread to find out why it feels like the Top RPM is soo much higher. I like it though, and I can get the front tires up SO easily it’s not funny, probably because of that midrange, O and when I drag race my dad, I pull way ahead until he hits the top of 4th gear, then and only then can he get around me. I think his 425 should waste me majorly from start to finish. I’m not really asking fo help, cause I love my boss, just asking for an explanation.

I have a Magnum 325 4 x 4. Had it clocked between 40-43 mph.

This may sound silly, but how much air is in your tires. I can gain 5 MPH just by pumping them up a couple pounds. Also, temperature will affect performance. What was the temp. when you made your run? These & many other factors will come into play.

i d oput quite a bit of air in those tyres. aroun 5-6 lbs. i know only 3-4 is recamended, but when i run that, it has a strange feeling when coming off the bigger jumps. it doesn't fell quite right and the back tires seem to squish down too much. thanks alot guys!
