Help With A 1982 200E Charging System
#1
Hey Thanks For Spending some time on my problem! I have a charging issue and its weird.
As you know its battery powered and had a regulator rectifier. when its running and the headlights on and the batterys taken out and i turn on the headlight it turns on...but kind of dim. And then when I go to check the terminals for the battery with a volt meter theres nothing. so does it mean that its not charging but the headlight system works or what? what would effect that.
I just bought the unit not that long ago and am thrying to restore it. So i took the motor out today because it was burning A LOT of oil and leavs oil residue in the tail pipe and is given that its either rings or valve seals. so as I'm fixing that is there anything I should check for the charging system while I have the motor out?

You should buy a book for it and test the stator to spec. Pay close attention where the wires go into the stator cover. When you Ohm out the wires, wiggle them where they go through the cover. I have had quite a few go bad in that spot.
