DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHERE THE OIL SCREEN IS ON THE 400 ?

 

Im assuming your talking about the oil filter. Its a disposable filter not a screen that can be cleaned. Remove the 3 bolts and black cover on the right side of engine. Just in front of the dipstick is a round cover held on by 3 bolts. Remove cover and pull out filter. It makes a mess when removing the filter so I took a piece of 3"x6" laminated cardboard, folded it in half the long way and stuff in under the filter. Now the oil will run down the cardboard and into the pan w/out running all over the plastic and down under the foot brace.

 

THE MANUAL SAYS THERE IS A SEPARATE OIL SCREEN BESIDES THE OIL FILTER BUT STATES THEY WANT YOU TO BRING IT TO THE DEALER TO CLEAN IT ,AS MOST I LIKE TO DO MY OWN MAINTANCE BUT DONT KNOW WHERE THE SCREEN IS

 

Sorry it took a few days to respond, I haven't been to work since Tuesday before today. The oil screen is on the bottom center of the engine. You'll see a plate w/ either 3 or 4 bolts holding it on. According to the service manual you need to unbolt and raise the engine to access the screen, which means basically unbolting just about everything attached to the motor (airbox, exhaust, air ducts for belt drive, etc.). The service interval for cleaning the screen is every 200 hours or 3730 miles (where they came up w/ 3730 miles is beyond me). I haven't done this myself so I can't tell you if it actually gets dirty enough to justify the time and effort to clean it. If you do tackle this, let me know what you cleaned out of your screen.
