I am going to be getting a 686 kit with a 11:1 piston, a s2 hot cam, Kibblewhite springs, and cometic gaskets. I am going to be getting a connecting rod from hotrods. My question is will i have to balance my crank with this connecting rod or can i leave it alone? I have heard guys that have balanced the cranks and some that have not even put in a new connecting rod.

hey caliraptor, did you get a connecting rod for yours or is it still stock? I noticed you have mild porting done. I am bringing my head to my buddy in the next few days, but he is not sure on what exactly needs to be ported. Oh I noticed you are from San Bernardino, me too.

 

Also do you loose a lot of mid range power with a s2? I do trail riding as well as drag racing.

 

Im still on the stock rod. I used to have a S1 for over a year and just went with a S2 a couple months ago. I had the EXHAUST chambers polished and port matched to the carb boots. Also have the combustion chamber smoothed out and polished, nothing fancy. You still in SB or just from here?

 

No i live i Texas now. I use to live by Big Bear, or by Del Rosa Elementry. Would you highly recomend me getting a new connecting rod or can i just leave the stock one in?

 

I'd go with a new crank/rod combo. Im kinda worried about the rod letting go, will probably replace it this summer. In the mean time Im gonna take it easy.

 

You should change the rod while its apart, I found out the hardway that the rappy rod will let go eventually. Have a look at the hotrod stroker setup, the 720 combos seem to be putting out some good numbers.
