Default im new and need some advice..400EX or DS650

ok.so im gona buy a quad for the summer.maybe 2.one for the women.but im kinda confused.i used to ride a friends 400ex and it was nice and pretty fast.but his dad had a ds650 that was faster.im looking to get a 00-01 so not new ok.so why is the DS650 cheaper then the 400?? im not sure i get the logic there.iv been looking at local papers and ebay and the 400 just goes for a bit more.why?? and what one is better?? id appreciate anyones help and opinions please.thanks much.......

i dont know a whole lot about either of them but i am going to guess that the honda is easier to get parts for, which may put the price up a little bit, but if i had the money the next quad i would buy would be a DS 650. the better question is what are you going to be doing with the quad, if you do alot of duning i would take the DS over ithe 400ex any time, but if you want tight trails i would get the 400ex.
just my .02

The honda is a better all-around quad and more reliable, that's probably why it's more expensive. The DS 650 is better in wide open areas and high speeds, and is extremely stable, but it's not nearly as nimble as the 400ex, it's just too big and heavy for most trail riding because of this. Unless you're doing all wide-open riding like in fields, the 400ex is a better choice for you.

Honda's seem to hold their value well.

I wouldn't worry about the reliability factor on the DS, shouldn't be much of an issue. Parts do tend to take a while to get but since you probably won't be needing many not a big problem.

I plan on selling my 04 to get a new Outlander.

yea i was kinda thinking all the same things.i havent riden either one in about almost 5 years.but i rode the 400 all the time and the 650 only a few times.i just remember the 650 was big and kinda tall.it just amazes me that the 650 is cheaper.it could be so much faster.i guess the 400 is more logical thought.hmmm i still dont know.i guess i should go maybe try and test them somehow

The type of riding that you will be doing would be a factor also.
