I have read that to wake these machines up that you need to replace the clutch kit. Can someone give me some info on a clutch kit? What does a clutch kit do? How much do they cost? Is this something that I can do in the garage or does a shop need to do it? Thanks...Dennis

You dont even need a whole clutch kit. All you need is a Primary spring. The clutch kit changes the shift pattern. From factory they are pretty tame. The best bang would be the EPI pink or red spring. This is something you can do within about an hour. The spring costs about $20. Maybe the best performance mod you can do to the 500 without breaking the bank.

Actully on the 500 Scrambler if you will get a Polaris green or Dalton blk/white primary spring and either a Aaen blue or HPD violet secondary spring you will get huge gains in performanceThis will run you about $45.HPD has a complete kit for stock 500s but it is around $150.

I am also pretty new to upgrading my scrammy . I have had mine snince new, 2000. All I've done was a k&n and filter cover. I was looking at complete clutch kits. How exactly will just changing the springs affect it? thanks, SPYDEY

You will get the full effect with a complete kit.Just changing springs will get get you an improvment. It would take all day to tell you exactly how a clutch works.

long story short.... with a tighter spring, the clutch shive engages at higher rpms, causing the take off the be more harder and getting more power on the bottom end cuz when it engages, it is at higher rpms.

Wow i never realized how you could gain power from just changing primary springs on an auto transmission. Well i understood they hooded up better with the springs installed, but actually, increasing numbers, thats amazing. With my new fulll hinson clutch in my z 400, do you all think i will notice any power gains, or is the gains just for automatics. Peace.
