Default 2001 Scram 4x4 help needed after roller instal

I just finished installing the team roller from hpd with heavier wieghts and a orange spring that Darrel recommended for the riding that I do.

Major problem now tho. When in drive a reving to pull out at slow speeds. I feel a severe drag and release. This continues to repeat itself until a higher speed at that point I dont notice it. I never noticed it with the stock secondary.........

I had a buddy rev so I can watch and you can actually see the rear end compressing and releasing as it goes. I pulled the chain and chain guard to make sure that was not binding. The chain feels tight on top and very loose on bottom atleast 1 inch of play. Any suggestions somethings not right.

I did install a new chain and sprockets about a month ago

Are you saying you installed the team roller secondary clutch and added weight to the drive clutch. Does the quad run out all right, as far as speed.
You may have flat spots on your belt causing the funny engagements of secondary clutch.

When I put the HPD 58 gram weights on the drive clutch it make a vibration that it didn't have before.
On the secondary clutch did you install the spring right, in the right holes that is, and adjust the belt with the right tention using shims?
Your chain should be adjusted with rear suspension collapsed with a strap, then check tension of chain with out the chain guard on. If you don't have a chain guard and running a HPD chain tensioner, you don't need to collapsed the rear, just leave 3/8" to 1/2" gap inbetween bottom of swingarm and the chain.

good luck with my 6 cents worth.

hey thanks for the advise. I did the orange spring and 58 grams also along with the hpd secondary. It was shipped ready to go. I checked the belt tension this evening and I am at about 1 inch. So I know that I need to loosen it up. HPD says that you can externally adjust the clutch to adjust the belt but it doesnt say anywere on these instructions how too.

Belt is about 5 months old, But flat spots are a possibilty I guess. I still cant figure out how that would affect this problem>>>>>>>>>

The inside of the belt has clogs (teeth), when one or more of the belt teeth are worn they slip on the drive clutch shaft, so to speak because they don't touch, causing the belt to jump and engine revs a little make secondary clutch ingage and disengage.

A worn belt makes the quad jump around some before taking off. Sometimes the untrained eye won't see anything wrong with the belt, install a new one and most of the time problem gone.
When riding : If the engine is reving and the quad is in gear and the rear tires aren't moving, like slow speeds in rocks or logs, then the belt is slipping and your burning flat spots on the teeth. You know, like when you got stuck going up a steep hill and you eased the throttle one trying now to flip and the engine was reving and belt was a slipping. Flat spots!

You can take my BUBBA BIKE listed below and power brake it and smoke a belt in 2 seconds because of the power. Man then it just goes thump, thump, thump, and vibrates like crazy.

Your new secondary clutch should adjust externally with an alen wrench from the center side.

handycap,

no disrespect intenteded here, but the PVT polaris clutch belts do not use the "cogs" on the inside of the belt for power transfer. they are there mainly for cooling of the belt.

the polaris clutches are designed to utilize the edges of the belt, as they ride against the surfaces of the angled clutch sheaves.

but you are right, to a degree, regarding "flat spots" in the belt. they can occurr, in the edges of the belt, when the belt gets wet or during power braking. if the belt is severely worn in one place, it could give a surging effect , as previously mentioned. mainly because the belt is narrower in that one spot, and is causing the clutch to backshift suddenly.

some better understanding of this can be found in the clutch tuning book offered by AAEN performance. it is a must for any polaris owner wanting the most out of their PVT clutching.

Problem fixed. Belt was worn. Changed to the 700 belt and the surging disappeared. Thanks to all. The team setup is a radical difference. I am going to have to pay attention that I don't wheelie flip this thing over and I am 260lbs.
