My new Hawkeye was leaking oil on the engine cooling fins and down onto the oil filter.
Here is the problem and here is the cause.

I was able to reseat the gasket and test it out. No more leak.

i think im going to wait b4 i buy one of these maybe next yr they'll have the bugs worked out. all these problems i dont want for sure. hell if the kids r breaking them my wife will destroy it lol.

 

Thanks for the info. I just noticed mine was leaking yesterday. Its under warranty but they will just tell me the leak is normal, so I will fix it myself. Already been to the dealer once for a rattling noise in the clutch case. I was told that noise was normal and then I pulled it apart and fixed the problem by shimming the bearing.

I just cant believe the photos you posted. I love my Sportsman but I will never buy another Polaris after the poor engineering I have seen on this Hawkeye!!!
Is that an oring groove that goes around the cover? If so I plan to use "The right stuff" gasket sealant to correct the problem. It's just unreal that a defective part could end up on more than one machine.

Anything you ran into when taking it off? What did you do, just reinstall it and leak stopped?
