Default Video of Mild Torture Test on Chinese 150cc Quad

The family and I went for a ride at Gorman. Took our Chinese 150cc quad out for "testing". I video taped my 14 year old putting it through some mild "torture". The quad fared pretty well through most of the day even after being tipped over (See Video). No cracked fenders, no bent handle bars. It held up pretty darn good.

However, I must say, that like it is recommended in other postings, wheel spacers are a necessity.

The riding he did was very light and just around the campsite. He took it over some small whoops, small jumps and spun it around a few times. The quad got about 2 hours worth of test riding.

Towards the end of the day, he took the quad out on a trail and the quad started throwing its chain. This was very unfortunate as the chain chewed up the rear brake caliper.

Before this day, I was considering purchasing one of the upgraded 150's for my daughter as a replacement for this one. However, since my failure is coming from the rear-axle and chain; and the set-up is the same on the upgraded mid-size to adult-sized quad we were considering, I am hesitant to purchase another one. Until I see video or in person a rider putting another Chinese quad through its paces, I am a little gun shy to purchase another Chinese quad.

As of right now, I am looking at a TRX-250 or my daughter is even considering going back to riding a motorcycle. As of yet, she is undecided.

Mild Torture Test

Any comments, good, bad, ugly, post them here. Sorry the video is so long, we cut a lot out and put this one up to show campsite riding, donuts, jumps and whoops. Also crash/tipping of quad is about half way through the video post. Safety is a first, sorry the riding pants are missing, forgot to pack them. Still had boots, shin guards, knee pads, chest protector, helmet and gloves. He won't wear elbow pads, he likes his battle wounds.

smb05,

It looks like the suspension was working pretty well on the boreem. It sounds good also. Did you find out what the problem with the chain was. Did he have the throttle all the way in any of the video? Seems like he may be a little big for the 150. Will it lift the front wheels up? You dont think the Jetmoto will be better? I have never seen a boreem up close.

2manytoys,

The suspension does perform pretty good, there is plenty of travel and it is not that stiff. My son did mention that when he was going over the whoops that the quad did bottom out a couple of times.

As far as the chain goes I have a couple of theories of what is making the chain jump the sprocket. I still need to wash the quad and get it up on the quad jack. If you don't mind I would like to take some video and post the video of the chain jumping the sprocket to see what you think. The only thing is it is going to take me a couple of days before I can get to it.

On the throttle I will have to ask him if he had it wide open or not. That is something I forgot to ask. My main concern was to see if the quad would make it through the day in one piece. The quad will do a wheelie, but at this point the only thing that is holding it back from doing this is the rear axle assembly. The axle just does not take the torque that the engine is producing. You may be able to see what I'm talking about once I get the video up.

As far as the new Jetmoto is concerned I can not really comment on it, and probably shouldn't because I don't own one and can not give a fair assessment on how the quad performs. I do know this, the rear axle is the same set up as mine and that is what makes me cautious.

As far as seeing a Boreem up close if you've seen a Yamoto, Tomoto, Jetmoto, Komoto or any other quad that looks like mine you've seen it. They are all the same.

This quad is not my son's, it is for my 11 year old daughter. My son was just my test rider for the day. He rides a YZ125 and my YZ426F. I had him do the test as he is usually the one who breaks things while riding.

Thanks for the reply. I will have the video up in a couple of days.

Have a good one.

The redcat 150 I used to have had a problem like that. The chain would come off the tensioner, I think it is really attributed to the rider being too big for the quad and said rider riding the quad a little too hard. My Kazuma 250 Dingo has the same style tensioner and I can put that through hell.

Im going to have to wait until I get home to check out the video smb05. Sounds cool. As for your chain problems. Have you looked to see if your swing arm is cracked at all? If it was flexing it could cause the misalignment. Did it always throw the chain or just with the son on it?

mywifesquad,

I have not been able to really look at the swing arm for any cracks or damage just yet. It is going to be a busy week for me. The quad is up on the motorcycle/quad jack but that's all I have done. The quad has never thrown the chain before. However, we never beat on the quad before Sunday. Even in the video the quad performed well until the end of the day. At this point in the venture with the Chinese quads it was a good learning experience, and the quad will just be for the kids to beat the heck out of in camp.

smb05, I just checked out the video. The 150 seemed to work well. Made me want to go to gorman and ride.

In thinking about the chain Id check for side to side play in the swing arm while your looking around.

mywifesquad,

Thanks, I will check the side to side play on the swing arm hopefully tomorrow. Our day out at Gorman was one of our best after some rain, the temp was in the mid 50's with lots of sun. Heck we even came home with sun burns. It was a good day riding.

I have the new Jetmoto150 and have taken it out a couple of times pretty hard and have yet to have any problems at al with the chain. I actually slacked the chain a little cause it was really tight when I got it. Hopefully I can have some videos and photos as well soon but I dont have a lot of time so we'll see.

socaltoyman,

If you get the time, it would really be nice to see some video and pics of the Jetmoto 150. Not only that, it would certainly back up your post on how well the quad did while it went through some tests. Maybe post some before and after pics of your new upgrades you are working on.

What a great selling point for Jetmoto/Raceway to have a customer show how well the quad performs, and that it can handle some abuse. It's encouraging to hear that the new Jetmoto's are doing so well.

Are you planning any trail rides in the near future?

If you wouldn't mind I would like to see your Jetmoto in action. So if you ever plan a trip to Gorman for the day or weekend let me know.
