Video of Mild Torture Test on Chinese 150cc Quad
#11
I have never bee to Gormon but only live about an hour or so from there I'm in Quartz Hill (Antelope Valley). You know of some good spots to ride up there, I would like to take a trip if it ever quits raining! I really am interested to check out the Jetmoto200 or the 250 for myself and see how it would hold up. I am also making a trailer for the Jetmoto150 for my son and put a hitch on it.
The 150 you have the video of, what kind is it?

socaltoyman,
There is alot of good areas to ride, from easy to real technical. If you PM me with your address info I will send you a map of Hungry Valley if you would like.
I too was interested in the Jetmoto 200 but may hold off for a little while. I would like to see more posts on the performance or any issues people may be having with them.
The quad that is in the video is a Boreem 150. And as far as my chain issue that I was having, my son and I adjusted the the chain and we have not been able to throw the chain. But we did our testing in the street not the dirt. We won't be able to test the quad this weekend but hopefully the following weekend we will be able to get out and test the repair. Actually we are going to see how much this thing can take before it really breaks.
Anyways have a good one.

While riding the Yamoto 150 last weekend it threw the chain for the first time. I should say that ever since the wife took ownership of the Jetmoto 200, the Yamoto has been beaten by my two sons, 18/20 and approx 205/220 lbs. And I have gotten on it with my 235 lbs a few times too. After the chain threw the second time we started looking at the quad a little closer. It turns out that it has a bent out put shaft. It must run out about a 1/4 inch or more. If you ride slow its ok but over 1/2 throttle and it looses the chain again.

mywifesquad,
That would make total sense. When my son and I started to look at ours the chain was not running true. It was actually offset upwards of 10 degrees or so. We adjusted the chain, took out the quad yesterday and it did not throw the chain. But we did not run it that hard.
Here is the thing I do have a new problem. If we run the quad with a nice even throttle the chain does well. But, like yours, when we accelerate to half throttle or above quickly, I have a skipping or popping action in the drive train. I just have not been able to pin point where it is exactly. I know that it could be one of many things, the output shaft, the reverse gear box or it could be the chain itself. It almost feels as if a gear is popping. Not only that I have a lot of chain vibration. The chain is on tight, it's not loose, but it does have some slack to make it run right. Our quad makes the popping action both in forward and backwards acceleration.
I am on hold at this time, as I am waiting for Boreem to get their shipment of new parts in to LA, which I have been told will be in in about 2 weeks. At that time, I will take the quad down to them and have them take a look at it and see if they have had others with the same problem. When their shipment is in, they are supposed to be getting heavier springs. So hopefully I can kill two birds with one stone.
Now, if this doesn't work, I plan on replacing my swing arm and rear axle with one that is similar to the current Jetmoto 200 and removing the reverse gear all together.
Keep me posted. Since my quad seems to have a similar issue, if you make the repair, it would be great to know what you will do to fix your problem. I would like to know not only what you do, but how you do it and what parts you use. Any info. will be greatly appreciated.
As a side note, I think its a great machine that you have. If you think about it, its a 150 and you and your sons are pretty big for it and it seems to have taken quite a beating.
Right now my quad is only campsite worthy and we all enjoy it. But I really want to get it in to shape to be a trailworthy quad. My ultimate goal is to take it out on a good trail ride and know that it can make the ride and return to camp.
Thanks for the update
Good Luck with the repair.

And I definitley agree that its amazing that it has taken the beating it did. When the wife rode it it never had a problem.
Your welcome and thanks! Im pretty sure we are either going to straighten the stock shaft or make a new one out of 4130 chromemoly.

Mywifesquad,
Thanks. I will do that and check it out.
Our quad didn't have any problems before my son got a hold of it. I swear it would probably run forever if only my daughter rode it. However, we just couldn't resist beating up on the quad. We have a blast beating on it and then fixing it up.

smb05, Im pretty sure that if my wife had continued to ride the Yamoto 150 all would still be fine also. I dont think the Yamoto 150 was designed to be beat on by anyone over 200lbs. Let me know what you find, should be interesting.

mywifesquad,
I will definitely let you know. I am hoping to get to it maybe today or tomorrow. My daughter and I are going to lower one of the CRF 150's for her today. She started her clutching skills on Sunday and did quite well. We will be putting the quad on the stand after we put her new lowering link on the CRF and adjust her forks.
I did notice when I went out into the garage today, my reverse gear box leaked all over the ground. So I also have some sealing to do.
Anyways talk to you later.
Have a good one.

mywifesquad,
Video Of Shaft
On the Video View Size its best set at Original View.
Bent Shaft
Tell me if this shaft isn't running true. The shaft may have never been running true or we bent it when we beat it up. The whole quad shakes or has a vibration when accelerating. mywifesquad you were right this is most likely the cause of my chain issues. Let me know if you do design a new shaft. I will pay $$. In the mean time I will be looking into other options. I still want to do the conversion on the swing arm. Anyways thanks for the insight you were correct.

Hey smb, I had a Redcat VX150 looking like it was doing the same thing a while back & it was the bearing in that holder piece by the nut was all out of wack, ovalled out, it too was throwing chains, I replaced the bearing & it didn't seem to wobble anymore & as far as I know the chain hasn't thrown off again, this was a couple months back, just a idea.
