Default 03" Grizzly - Overheat light on

I just bought a 2003 Grizzly with only 220 miles on it. I just picked it up Sunday night and have only ridden it a couple of times (the day I looked at it for about five minutes and the day I picked it up).

Last night I had the key in the on position as I was working on the winch (I pulled it all the way out and then back in to tighten it). While I was doing so I noticed the overheat light was on. So I started it and ran it for a couple of minutes and the light came back on.

I am hoping someone may have had a similar problem and knows the different things I need to check.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Does it have vents built into the black covers directly above the engine or are they solid? There is a heat kit available from Yamaha for 02s & 03s that included these plus other parts to try to cool them down. I have noticed a Grizz get very hot when standing still winching but the engine was running.

Check the coolant level, and make sure the radiator, isnt dirty or plugged.

Check the temp switch on top of the motor make you have not lost your ground to it. the connection between the switch and the harness gets corroded. its a short piece of wire 6' check both ends.
