Shifting prob 02 rancher es
#1
My 2002 rancher 350 4x4 will not shift for several minutes after starting. Any ideas what the problem might be? Also thinking about buying the 4x4 unlocker from Warn, Anyone do this on theirs? What does it take to install?

does it sound like it's trying to shift, like making noise, or is the motor not working at all?
does the gear indicator show dashes or show the N like it's supposed to?
can you shift it manually with the manual shift tool? need more info.
as for the 4-2-4, it takes about 2 hours to install, a little less if you have help. If you arent good with tools, take it to a shop and have them do it. take the tire off, take the plastic liner out of the fender, then unbolt the front diff from the frame and slide it forward to disengage the drive shaft from the engine, move the shaft away from the engine and pull out of the front diff. then reverse for installation, route cable and assemble control assy.

When it is cold it is not trying to shift. As it warms up I can hear it trying to shift but dosn't, then it will show dash and i can rock the machine and it will shift. Then it will work correctly.

load test the battery and adjust the clutch first. then take apart the shift motor wire connector and check for any corrosion. if there isnt any, put some electrical grease in the connector and put it back together.
