i hear unifilters are better for my 1986 suzuki lt230 rather than the factory filter, but does it improve performance in any way at all?

 

Stock filters are built pretty conservatively. They are usually thick and composed of very dense foam. They are meant to not pass dirt, even when neglected.

UNI filters are two stage. The outer is less dense, and the inner is more dense. So, the UNI flows more air than the stocker, but requires an owner who is more diligent and won't let things get out of hand.

A UNI may improve you performance slightly, if you are running a little rich. If you are on the lean side, it may require a rejet.
