Alright, i just got my Big Gun CDI, and i want to to know if it is possible to rev the engine too high. all are stock internals except for the piston and i need to know at what rpm i should stop winding it out at. i've heard stock valves float at 8300 or so? anybody know if its gonna damage anything going over 8300 rpm? I searched and saw scoobys thread and didnt want my piston and valves to end up like that, it looked pretty tragic. thanks guys

 

I dont know the exact number or rpm at which the valves float, but I dont think you will have a issue. If your just hitting the limiter going through the whoops then coming back down to peak power, then I think you will be fine. You shouldnt be running it for long at that rpm. Nor do you have any power at that rpm to want to be there anyhow. I ran my stock bike with the same rev limit for a year with no issues. I would hit the limiter on occasion, but not for long.

 

I ran a stock DS with a Big Gun CDI that bumped the rev limter up to 8750 or so. It still was making enough power up there to bounce off the rev limiter (Peak power was still around 6500 rpm I think) and there was no sign of valves floating. I couldn't tell that it made me any faster. I think you need one once your cams are making good power beyond the stock rev limiter[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]
