I just brought my new Outlander 400 home and found out there's no way to turn off the headlights. That's idiotic!!! Even the budget priced Yamaha Bruin had the option to shut off the lights.

The area I ride in is illegal, but the cops don't bother us until the piped sports quads show up and then they go after everyone, including kids and stock utes. They show up by surprise and I don't want to draw attention to where I'm laying low by having the headlights on. Is there any way to shut the lights off? A fuse maybe? Thanks.

 

Your 400 has a three position key switch. When you turn your ignition key from the off position the next position is power on with lights on, the third postion is power on, lights off. The switch on the handlebar is the bright/dim switch.

btw, all power should shut off your on quad after about 15 minutes, even if the key is left on and you have shut if off with the engine switch. Good idea I think, cause with the 800's, if you have no battery, you're <u>screwed</u>! Does the 400 have a rope pull engine turnover?

I carry jumper cables and, (groan), I'm going to start hauling a damn spare battery around with me. It will fit in the rear storage area and I think there is a way to trickle charge it, and hook it up to the original battery if it goes dead.

BTW, better tie your battery down with more that that strap, cause sooner or later it is going to fail. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]

 

yes the 400 does have a pull start but it almost takes two ppl to start it when its cold cuz u gotta pull er juss right and work the gas/choke just right
