I need to lose some weight ...from my quad
#1
Well my truck is gone now due to gas prices and I now have a Dodge Caliber with a towing capacity of 1000 pounds.
I'm left with two choices now - either sell my Outlander Max XT for a lightweight sport quad, or trim some heft off my current quad.
I found an aluminum trailer that weighs in at 200 pounds. The Outty Max according to my owners manual weighs in at 650 dry weight. I am willing to bet that this is not the XT version however. Even if it were, that puts me at about 900 with gas, oil, etc. If I drive with a passenger, i'll be over the limit.
I'm looking for tips on how to lighten up this beast. If I swap out the Carlisle ACT's for Mudlites, I'll be saving a total of 14 pounds there. If I remove the winch, there goes another 25. If I take off the front and rear bumpers, who knows, a little more, maybe 10.
That leaves the option of going with aluminum rims. The C-Series Type 5's supposedly only weigh 7.5 pounds a piece. I think that's the lightest around. Can anyone tell me how much the stock steel rims weigh? Are there any other areas I can save shave some weight off?

Well, thats just the thing - there is no overdrive. These cars have CVT transmissions. Wierd, eh?
Maybe I'll give it a try going a short distance and see how it does, then worry about what to do later.

06 max 800. I went from itp aluminum wheels and mudlite tire, which by the way are heavy, I put lightweight itp aluminum wheels and dune star tires on front and back, saved a ton of weight and makes the beast handle much better.
