Picking up the 730 on wednesday - heading to LS, UT on friday!
#1
I dropped off the 730 in KY a lil while back to have randall/eric find a new exhaust cam to try and get a bit more power out of her (hoping for over 70whp with matching torque).
We leave friday early AM and are driving pretty much straight through (Might stop in wyoming like past years, not positive). I will try and find out for sure but I know we are riding the moab desert first and then after that we will be at little Sahara Utah for the remainder of the trip. Sorry I dont have exact dates yet (been SUPER busy havnt even had time to think about the trip!) but once I find out for sure I will update this. It would be great to see some local DS guys out there! On our last two trips I have never met up with connection DS members usually just DS guys who are not nearly as hardcore as the rest of us! Our group will be pretty sizable this year with approximately 15 people. A couple of DS' - a ton of yfz's along with some utes.
Should be a good time and again would be nice to see any local guys!

Roost, you ought to enjoy that 730. What are your other mods? In other words, what exhaust, carbs, and cams are you running. Obviously you may have a different exhaust cam...
I would think that you should e right on the number you want with HPR4's and an ugly stick. As far as 70 on the torque side..... not sure if you'll see that. That would be pretty healthy..... Possible, but pretty healthy.

I got a bit more info tonight. We are leaving friday morning super early and driving straight through to utah. We are riding the first two days in the moab desert and then after that spending the rest of the week at LS. So if I have my days/dates right we should be there the 5th through the 9th or possibly the 10th if we ride a partial day on sat the 10th.
My mods on the 730 are 48hv - 40/34 black diamonds - fully ported head/intake - hr5's currently but I think they are putting the hr4 on the exhaust side (were going to dyno to see what works out best) - top gun pipe- vortex cdi - the only downfall is compression is on the low side (11:1 or 11.5:1? dont remember the exact number) but its set so it can run straight pump gas as race fuel is hard to come by around here.
The dyno prior to the top gun and exhaust cam change was 66 hp/ 64 tq i beleive so hopefully the new pipe and the cam change will bring the hp to 70 or above and tq hopefully close to 70. Should be a huge improvement over my approx 40 hp I have been running on my stage I the past two years there. I was able to run 3rd up the valley side dropping to 2nd about 1/2 way up and pulling the face at around 5k in second geared 14/40 with 22's sand stars. I am thinking geared 14/41 with 22" 9 paddle haulers I can rev out 3rd up the face. As long as I can blow by these obnoxious little yfz's I will be satisfied

Good luck Roost and Have Fun man - I know you will!!
My stock bore build with same gearing you mention 14/41 and me weighing 270 pounds is pulling a strong 6500rpm in 3rd up the face, your 730 should rip it a new ****!

O beleive me I cant wait to get out there and just shred non stop! You and I are in the same boat - only get to satisfy our REAL dune needs once a year and im quite sure we both git'r-done when the time comes!
what tires/size were you running at LS, HT? I got myself down to 205lbs but dont know if I will have enough extra hp/tq to pull a whole 'nother gear... maybe I can at least be high enough in the rev range to maintain 4th on the hill even if I cant rev it out. Have you dyno'd your current setup? I am curious what numbers you are putting down - pulling that kind of gear on the face is damn quick! did you only add the high comp. piston or were there other go fast goodies added?

Oh yes same boat indeed Roost, and you and I both know its well worth the long drive every year!!
I am running 22" 8 paddle extremes,
have not dynoed my current setup,
my last setup was everything the same as I have now except 11.5:1 piston and dynoed 50rwhp 43tq wearing 22" knobbies at a dyno here in Indy, and with that setup and same tires and gearing I ran 7200rpm up the valley and around 5800rpm up the face both in 3rd. now my setup is all the same except new 14:1 piston and pulling 7800rpm on valley and 6500 on face, I would guess the hp to be around 60 if wearing flat track tires but like I said I have not dynoed it. was gonna dyno at KBR in Salt Lake but didn't bring knobbies cause they were supposed to have flat track tires but once I got there it turns out he didn't have them unfortunately.
all this with stock header and HMF slip-on!
I wondered if I may be able to chug out 3rd all the way on the fingers, but I tell ya man, it would SUCK to not make it on those fingers and I wasn't gonna chance it, so I dropped to 2nd halfway each time and was winding out over 9K on the tach every time

I have 22" 9 paddle extremes so were really close on setups. I did get in touch with randall today and the dyno is having issues but were gonna go ahead and do the cam swap (looks like both intake and exhaust) and i can always just dyno it at a later time - as long as she runs well for the trip thats all im worried about!
As far as where at in moab to be honest I have absolutely no idea - i will try to find out more info before we leave though. I just know its somewhere in moab (not very specific huh- lol) and we are riding saturday and sunday I beleive. My group dosnt much care for the whole camping aspect (sucks because I Love it!) so we will be spending each night in payson-utah (where rocky mountain atv is ) so its about a 45-60 min drive each morning. I do know a couple out of the 15-20 people going are renting in an RV and parking it out there so we will probably leave the trailors out there at night (24 foot black enclosed- 16 foot black enclosed - and a couple others not positive) and the haulers are all black late model chevy heavy duty diesels (one dually and a couple regular axles).
